Condition:
Eye missing and damage to soft
tissue on right side of the head (probably scavengers) (Figure 2), shallow cut
in flank (Figure 3). Abrasions on the leading edge of the tail (Figure 4).
Broken teeth (no. 158 to 161) in lower jaw (Figures 5), slight abrasion on the
tongue level with broken teeth (Figure 6). Rake marks in the flank (Figures 7
and 8).
Carcass c. 4 days post mortem
Cause of death:
Possibly bycatch (indicated by the broken teeth and rake marks)
Animal known to have fed well
before death
Samples collected:
Inner ears for ongoing hearing
research
Fish otoliths found in the
stomach contents for species ID
Parasites collected for NHM
