Dolphin Stranding at Seaton, Cornwall

Brief examination of the carcass:

Date:            31/03/2006 (a)

Recovered:  SX 303 544 (Left of breakwater)

Species:       Common dolphin (Delphinus delphis)

Sex:              Female

Length:        1.67 m

Tag no:        001760

 

Condition:

Eyes missing, broken jaws.  Deep cuts in jaws, head, lower abdomen and tailstock, injuries possibly caused by boat propeller.  Some rake marks and broken teeth. 

Carcass c. 7 days post mortem

Possible cause of death:  Accident with boat
