Dolphin Stranding at Whitsands Bay in South
East Cornwall

Brief
examination of the carcass:
Date: 20/01/2006
Recovered: Tregantle Fort,
Whitsands Bay. SX 410 507
Species: Common dolphin (Delphinus
delphis)
Sex:
Unknown
Length: 2.14 m
Condition:
Carcass wedged tightly between rocks and could
not be moved to determin sex (see additional photos). Eyes decomposed,
many broken teeth, 4 Large holes in tail. No other significant signs of
injury though ventral aspect could not be observed due to the position of the
carcass. Large amount of netting/drift wood etc around the carcass (see
additional photographs), though not obviously associated with the cause of
death.
